Company Overview
Historic Machinery Services
Corporation (HMS) provides repair, restoration and conservation services to railroads specializing in steam locomotives as
well as museums and individuals with a need for detailed period restoration for specialized equipment and industrial machinery.
HMS
was established in 1996, the result of the close of the Norfolk Southern Steam Deparment in Birmingham, Alabama. It was the
desire of Robert Yuill, general foreman for sixteen years of the steam department at that time, to continue working with "one
foot in the past" to preserve the heritage of the steam locomotive. With this goal in mind, Robert established HMS to provide
his services and supervisory skills to restore to working order steam locomotive/operating equipment. Robert's natural mechanical
ability, coupled with mechanical drawing courses at the college level and years of experience working with steam locomotives,
freight and passenger car work and even trolley cars enable him to design and replicate any parts need to accomplish restoration.
HMS
continues to seek restoration opportunities in the locomotive and industrial field.
